We’ve been having fun this week turning our patch of concrete into a garden! Mum & Dad Heywood came to Sheffield to oversee the proceedings and advise us on how to keep everything alive.
Our alpine pot consists of:
- Scutellaria suffrutescens – ‘Texas Rose’
- Sisyrinchium – ‘Sapphire’
- Leptinella – ‘Platt’s Black’
- Dianthus Whatfield Magenta
Our herb pot (the big blue one on the left) consists of:
- Rosemary
- Curled Parsley
- Chives
- Common Thyme
Back middle pot contains Freesias. Front little blue pot is our Chillie plant (from the Eden Project). Light blue pot is our house plant ‘Dracaena Compacta’ that we are trying to revive after much neglect.
The sunny spot of our patch of concrete is occupied by:
- Back left in a chimney pot we found in our outside toilet! A Labelia & Ivy
- Back middle in the red square pot is a Vibernum, Pansies and more Ivy
- Back right is our fig tree that is looking healthier now we have fed it
- Front left is our Apple tree courtesy of my Grandma
- Front middle contains a Lobelia & pansies
- Front right pot contains some other stuff we have totally forgotten the name of
We also threw in lots of tulips, alliums and 4 muscari mount hoods to the mix.
It will be nice to see how they all look next year providing we haven’t killed any off. If we succeed in keeping these alive then I’m feeling adventurous and want to plant Potatoes, Strawberries, Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Mushrooms!! Role on spring time.

looking good!
